Naturalness & Sustainability
Nature is our ally. Living in harmony with nature means using its resources carefully. In our connected world, our actions have a direct and indirect impact on the lives and well-being of many people. We don't want to trample on nature. This is our way of coming clean with it.
Leather is our life. That's why we treat this material with unique properties as naturally as possible. We especially like to work with vegetable-tanned leather, in other words, "chrome-free" leather. The dyes used in tanning come from ground bark extracts. Although leather tanned using plant-based dyes is more expensive to manufacture and more difficult to work with, it is breathable, skin-friendly, moisture-absorbing, and free of pollutants, and it can be worn by people who are allergic to chromium. Our leathers are tanned in Germany and Italy.
Protecting the future of our environment means treating our environment with care in the present. Think! does more than just pay lip-service to the sustainable use of natural resources and social responsibility; these objectives are our strong beliefs, and we live according to them. Short transport distances, natural materials, fair production of our handmade shoes in Europe, and environmentally friendly processing mean that we don't take more from the environment than we are able to give back to it.
Think! shoes are simply sustainable! Sustainability also means that Think! shoes can be repaired and, at the end of their long life, recycled.
At Think!, we consider the advancement of our sustainability standards a daily challenge for us to tackle. That is why we're especially delighted that the black lace-up model of our Think! Chilli shoes were awarded the Austrian Ecolabel in 2015, the first shoes ever to earn this honour. Every component, every supplier, and every partner company was audited based on the Ecolabel criteria.
Think! supports Oberösterreichische Lebenshilfe, an organisation in Upper Austria that helps people with intellectual and other disabilities. At two of the workshops it operates, people with disabilities manufacture shoehorns and shoe creams with a love of detail. To us, being human also means loving life and living a life of love.
